A 'potted history' of Hopes of Longtown

 

  • I can't quite believe it, I have been nominated by Mrs Olive Powell of Ewyas Harold and now won the NFU Countryside, Country Person of the Year 2004.
  • Monday 27th September was the Highly contested Flavours of Hereforshire Awards ceremony.  We were delighted to be shortlisted and received a commended plaque.  The other local winners were Food From Here.... based in Turnastone.  We stock their range of Chutneys and would definitely reccomend a visit to the tea rooms, winners of the Flavours of Herefordshire Award Tearooms 2004.
  • We were delighted to receive the BiTC (Business in The Community) Rural Action Award. I received the awards from HRH Prince Charles and Sir Steve Redgrave at a marvellous awards dinner at the Royal Albert Hall.
  • Not only have we been shortlisted for a national award but we have just received Investor in People Status.
  • We are delighted to announce that we have five new part time members of staff.
  • Tuesday 4th May 2004, we have just opened our brand New premises, built on time even if not on budget.
  • I am Delighted to say building works have now started for the New Premises (January 2004). If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
  • 29th January 2004, An offer letter has been received from DEFRA duly signed and returned and regarding the new shop I am proud to say 'this project is supported under the England Rural Development Programme by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund'.
  • 10th December, Very Excited I have just had it confirmed by Telephone we have been accepted for funding through DEFRA.
  • 1st December, Just in time we have moved premises, situated now in a portacabin opposite the Crown Inn. We now have the best views from a village shop, I would think anywhere in the country!! Come and see for yourself.
  • I can confirm we will be moving at the end of November, currently Mr Andrew Jones, Mr William Sayce and obviously dad (Mr Philip Hope) are working overtime to get the carpark ready in time.
  • Friday 7th November, Mr N Pringle, Chief Executive of Herefordshire Council confirmed Planning Permission would be granted.
  • We have also applied for a DEFRA Rural Enterprise Grant, for the permanent new premises.
